Video submission instructions:
2
We’re also asking everyone to submit a fun video! A few instructions below:
-Keep the total submission to 3-4 minutes
-Feel free to edit each part together into one video, or submit them as separate files.
-Label each video with your FULL NAME. If you submit each part separately, add the number of each part. For example: CAITLIN-WELLS-pt1.mov
-.mp4 or .mov format
-We want to see YOU on camera the whole time.
We accept Google Drive, YouTube, or Vimeo links. Make sure your submission is NOT password protected!
VERY IMPORTANT: Perfect and polished IS NOT THE POINT. This is more of a chance for us to get to know you and see how your creativity, play, and imagination work! We want to see what sparks your curiosity.
Part 1: Song
3
Please sing 1 minute of a contemporary song that you love (pop, rock, folk, jazz, contemporary musical theater, etc), with or without accompaniment (backing track, or if you want to accompany yourself, go for it!)
Part 2: Creative Monologue
4
Record a short (aprox. 90 seconds) performance piece based on a historical quote.
Find a quote or story from/about a person from history (doesn’t need to be a capital “F” famous person) that sparks your curiosity. Then turn this quote/story into a 90-second performance piece. We’re looking for a sense of play, big choices, experimentation, creativity. Have fun!
Please be intentional about your background (what’s behind you while you film) and lighting. Make sure we can see and hear YOU on camera the whole time.
Example: You’ve pulled an Eleanor Roosevelt quote, set up in your bathtub, poured yourself a cup of tea while wearing a bathrobe, and employed some physical and vocal gestures in the delivery of Eleanor’s words. Yeehaw!
Part 3: Movement
5
Record a short (aprox. 30 seconds) movement phrase based on a tarot card!
Choose one of the following Rider Waite tarot cards: The Tower, The Fool, or The High Priestess.
Spend 5ish minutes playing with the image however you’d like - perhaps…
Putting stances from the image in your body
Exploring how one part of the image inspires physical action
Writing about your cards and making movement from your writing
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Spend another 5 minutes making a 30-second movement phrase based on what you just did, then record it!
Thanks so much! We’re excited to see ya
